More Information
The Porcupine Collection includes narratives, fiction, non-fiction, recount, humour, traditional tales and procedures. Settings and characters in the stories reflect the diversity of contemporary Canada.

The text has been carefully levelled to DRA, GR and EIL and has appropriate challenges.

Colourful and attractive illustrations support and extend the text. The clear print and layout emphasizes the size and position of type and its relationship to the illustrations.

Comprehensive teachers resource books are available at each level. They are filled with strategies, techniques, lesson plans and activities to build independent reading fluency.

Consulting Editor to the Porcupine Collection - Helen Depree
Co-author of the best selling Early Literacy in the Classroom and co-creator of the popular Foundations and Wonder World series, New Zealand author/educator Helen Depree has worked with each contributor to ensure the careful levelling of texts that makes the Porcupine Collection so effective for every child. During her career as teacher, college lecturer and consultant, Helen worked with Dr. Marie Clay in the early field trials of Reading RecoveryTM at the University of Auckland. Well known to Canadian educators, she is in demand as a speaker on balanced literacy, guided reading and early writing.
