Reading Strategy Posters encourage and promote:

  • an understanding of the strategy being taught and a self-awareness by readers of how the strategy helps them.
  • an active discussion of materials read using a common language.
  • in-depth teaching of each strategy separately.
  • an environment where reading and thinking is valued and seen as a tool for gaining new knowledge and rethinking current knowledge.
  • students to be motivated and engaged in the learning process and to become independent and strategic readers.

Every teacher focusing on improving their students’ reading comprehension should have a set of these Reading Strategy Posters. I’ve found that the attractive, colourful posters greatly assist teachers when they are introducing the comprehension strategies, and they also become important tools for the students.

The Reading Strategy Posters are a wonderful resource which help to implement and reinforce comprehension strategies. I strongly encourage teachers to display the posters in their classrooms, the lunchroom and even in major hallways. Children need a visual anchor to the strategies and the posters very effectively provide that anchor.
